If heels are for girls, then toys are for boys?

For many people, collecting things is habitual. Collecting things like keychains, collection cards, hello kitties, disney merchandise, origami, comics, shoes, bags, etc. You go somewhere, see something nice, pick and pay for it. For some, it is a seasonal hobby which only gets better when travelling. But for others, it's guilt if you don't own the entire Gundam series. After all, the Gen Y generation and Echo Boomers have had one of the most unforgettable TV times with cartoon shows like The Simpsons, Tom & Jerry, Star Wars and Transformers being the most popular. Transformers the Movie had us all kinda star-struck.

Isn't it time we have one of our own? Not making a film, of course, but a toy-centric bazaar sounds as good. With just a little effort on your part, you can help us get one step closer to our dream goal. Speaking of which, we're teaming up with fellow toy collectors and craftmakers to bring a TOY-CENTRIC art mart to KLites!

Joujou & Shugi? The names mean 'toys' in French and 'craft' in Japanese. Don't be surprised to find yourself with some 70s vinyl records, highly-collectible interior desk lamps or wooden art collectibles at the art mart.
Value first, money second. Collecting stuff is really fun. You may find pretty good stuff about which you're interested in collecting. If that's the case, head on to Joujou & Shugi Toy Art Mart, every Saturday from 10am to 6pm at The Weld!

Some 'highly collectible' stuff on sale on the opening of Joujou & Shugi Toy Art Mart, 7th March 2009:-

1) G.O.D. Red ANT Lamp (NEW)

2) Disney Couple Lamp with push-on button (NEW)

3) Miss Hua 3-in-1 artpiece (with artist's autograph)

4) The four Skyscrapers & the Illuminated DIY Card Tower (NEW)

How about getting one of these as a gift to a friend? Souvenir? Or as add-on to your growing collection? Well, you decide!

(Price of items negotiable)

"You Don't Know the Power of the Dark Side..." - Toys Battle by Louis Koo

Toys Battle is a toy book written by Hong Kong celebrity, LOUIS KOO. Can’t really imagine a well-known actor could have a passion for toys. Cool, isn’t it?

This book not only talks about toys but also contains comments from Louis’ mom, friends and colleagues. As you are reading it, you will get to know more about Louis as a person. In this book, Louis writes page after pages on certain characters in several animation and sci-fi movies.

Simply, he finds inspirations from the characters inside the movies. One of the examples he stated in his book is a character from Start Wars, Darth Vader (Anakin Sky Walker). Darth Vader was a hero until he was challenged. The unbearable pressure had taken a toll on him thus venturing into the dark side. He wanted to take away his own life when he found out his own family resented him. Fortunately, he managed to turn good again right before he ends his life. Life’s like that, Louis said in his writings. People don't appreciate what they already have until it’s too late.

Besides Star Wars, the handsome-looking, gorgeous man is also obsessed with Marvel superheroes especially Spiderman and Batman, Bear Brick, Death Note and the likes. Immerse yourself into the movie while watching it because Louis Koo does, and later you will realise how less different it is to real life.

Spend 30 minutes before bed reading this toy book and bring it to your sleep. No, you won’t become Darth Vader but at least you know you wake up having understood a new thing about life from Louis Koo and his adventures with toys.

Toys Battle by Louis Koo is available at all major bookstores in Malaysia.

More than Meets the Eye

That's right. All the buzz about the toy market in Singapore is enough to keep my fingers busy blogging about it. I so wish it has a name cos 'toy market' sounds plain ordinary. Nonetheless, it was awesome! There's a saying that one man's trash is another man's treasure...and, that rings totally true. There're very little bargaining activities that go on between the buyer and the seller because the deals are too irressitable! Wanna see how interesting this place can be on a Sunday? Come on, let us show you around!

Inside the building...

Tempting, isn't it? So, shall we have something similar here in our lovely KL city? Make your vote, toy lovers! (see panel on the right hand side of this page)
